Just one more ad, please
There's an ad for the NYLottery in the subway station near our place that has a "dream bubble" above a man's head. In the panel next to his photo is a large luxury yacht, supposedly what he's dreaming he'd buy should he win the lotto, but someone graffitied text into his bubble of what they feel this character is really dreaming of:
I received the press kit the other day for the next Carnegie International (which I'm embarrassed to say is about the only time I really get to Pittsburgh anymore...time being the commodity I never have enough of), and I'm not going to say I was making a point of looking for Calaboyias' piece at the airport when I go, but it would certainly be a welcome change from all the ads one already finds at airports. I may not get the chance now, though. How nice....
A luxury condoThis came to mind this morning when I read that the Pittsburgh International airport is considering replacing one of its major artworks with advertising [from USA Today, via artinfo.com]:
A vapid boyfriend
And just one more Starbucks in Manhattan
Please!
"Pittsburgh International is considering replacing one of its most prominent pieces of art, Peter Calaboyias' Silver Grid Wall, with advertising, triggering complaints from the artist and other local officials. The aluminum work, which is 78 feet wide and 8 feet high, has graced the wall above the escalators in the main terminal since 1992."Just one more place I can be bombarded by advertising, please.
"Spokeswoman JoAnn Jenny says Pittsburgh International is considering putting up advertising to make up for the revenue that will be lost when US Airways cuts back 40 flights next month. Jenny indicates the airport has received a lot of interest in the space and estimated it would generate more than $10,000 a month in advertising. Calaboyias is trying to keep the installation in its spot by appealing to local politicians, says the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, which first reported on the issue."

Wonderful!
Thanks for the link Mark.
Just reviewed your page and thanks for the support in keeping art that is designed for a specific site in its location. It reflects the opinion not only of so many regional supporters of the arts, but have received support world wide.
